WISH YOU WERE HERE (from 2026)

‘Wish you were here’ draws on the nostalgic practice of sending postcards, something many of us used to do when we were away, enjoying our holidays. It was a time when just a few words, often ‘Wish you were here’, were all that needed to be written to let someone know they were in your thoughts.

Postcards are few and far between these days, not because people aren’t travelling but because postcards demand so much of us – we have to find the right card, sit down to write on it, buy a stamp and then locate a letterbox to send it (all the time knowing you’ll probably be home again before it reaches its destination). Why go to all that trouble when you can simply take a photo and post it on Instagram, reaching countless people instead of just one?

The reason is that there’s a real joy in finding a postcard in your letterbox, and it’s just for you. I still love getting postcards and I continue to send them when I’m away.

But if I haven’t managed to convince you, perhaps a postcard-sized painting to remind you of those days could be a longer-lasting alternative! For the moment, the images below are just a taste of what is still to come with ‘Wish you were here’. The series will predominantly showcase Sydney’s northern beaches, but others will no doubt be included in time …

Unless noted otherwise, the paintings below are available for purchase. Please drop me an email.
