I don’t know about you, but certain numbers, when I see, hear or read them, bring special people to mind. This is my 81st monthly journal entry, and my mum was 81 when she died. She never had the opportunity to see my website, nor did she know I made painting my full-time thing, but she certainly knew how much I’d been enjoying it in the years preceding her death, and I have no doubt she’d be proud of, interested and engaged in all I’ve done, were she still here.
My mum is never far from my thoughts, and that will certainly be the case soon as I head out west on a photographic adventure! I’ll be going to the Blue Mountains and beyond, visiting Mudgee, Bathurst and Orange (where she was from), and smaller towns on the way. Can’t wait, not only for the time away but to see what it ultimately might produce here in my studio!
Last week I attended the opening of the Hall & Wilcox Emerging Artists Exhibition, in which a selection my ‘Gumleaf Collection’ are showcased. (Pictured above is the first one to sell on the night.) Step out of the lift on the 18th floor, look right and what a wonderful view over Darling Harbour! Go left and you enter the exhibition, and I’m so pleased to have been given the opportunity to be there. There was a really lovely atmosphere in the room on the night with a wonderful variety of artworks, and the food was delicious! My thanks to Casey and all the others who put in such an enormous effort to make it all go so seamlessly. In the lead-up to the opening they helped us navigate our way through all that had to be done and in so doing made us feel incredibly welcome. They couldn’t have been nicer. So please head on in to Kent Street in Sydney’s CBD this month if you can – they’re just a short walk from Wynyard Station.
