There’s something incredibly nostalgic about the homes we grew up in. A large chunk of our developmental years were spent with our families within the walls of those homes as we learned about and how to navigate the world around us. That’s why the eventual sale of a family home can really tug on our heartstrings, as childhood memories inevitably come flooding back.
I’m thinking about that now because I’ve recently completed commissions of two such special family homes, and I know that having such a keepsake has meant a great deal to the recipients, who will be able to look at these paintings and enjoy their own precious memories. Some years ago I had a wonderful artist by the name of Kathy Wesson do the same for me, in fact she did three different aspects as I wanted to give two of them to family, and keep a third (pictured above).
Family memories aside, closing tomorrow at the ‘& Something Else’ gallery in Manly is the ‘Small Things’ exhibition, and I’d like to thank the purchasers of my pieces from ‘The Gumleaf Collection’. Creating those works was pure joy for me, and so I am thrilled when I learn that they have also brought joy to someone else. More of this collection is now on show and for sale at Marie-France, in West Pymble, and following hot on the heels at ‘& Something Else’ is ‘The Language of Flowers’; again I will have work hanging there, from my ‘Anthophilia’ series. Read on for details of these exhibitions, and more.
