I’d met Julie Peadon briefly on a couple of occasions, and each time I found her to be a very friendly, aware and capable person, and so it was really lovely last week to spend an hour or so with her in her studios in Drummoyne, getting things organised for February’s ‘Showcase at the Studio’. This is an opportunity for me to use Julie’s window space to display a number of my watercolours (a display space that she uses to showcase the work of a different artist each month).
In the Lyons Road windows are a selection of paintings from my ‘Anthophilia’ series (one of which, Flannel Flowers, appears above), and around the corner on Tranmere Street, a number of pieces from ‘The Gumleaf Collection’. And it was confirmed – Julie is all those things I first saw in her, and a whole lot more! In those Drummoyne studios she teaches children, adults and families; holds workshops for all ages (and corporate groups); hosts ‘Cocktails and Canvas’ sessions … and that’s all while she has her own art practice on the go. Such community-minded and enthusiastic, giving people are a special breed, and I thank Julie for welcoming me and having a selection of my work in her windows this month – it’s a real treat!
The year is already in full swing for me, too, with preparations underway for a number of other shows …
