… until Christmas!
This morning I opened an email newsletter from a lovely friend and ceramic artist Romanda Newman, which in part read: ‘I know it sounds a bit too early to be thinking about Christmas, but …’
And I felt instant relief! I know it won’t be long before we start seeing signs of the festive season in the shops (I’m guessing September), but it’s been in my thoughts lately too, and yet I thought I’d probably receive a collective groan if I were to say the C-word in early August!
As Romanda pointed out, ‘pottery-making is a very slow business’. For me, I’m about to embark on something altogether different, but certainly Christmas-related, and I need to be prepared. Many years ago, for a reason I have long since forgotten, I made myself a Christmas wreath. I really liked it, and that year ended up making several, giving them to friends.
Then last year, a couple of friends I didn’t have all those years ago were at my place before Christmas, saw my wreath and, with one thing leading to another, I told them I’d show them how to make them next Christmas (which is now this Christmas). I also got to thinking that I might use that wreath to teach my first-ever workshops.
One of those wreaths is pictured above. It’s made largely with Australian natives and leaf litter, and I’ve been very conscious of the fact that I need to look out for and collect a lot of this stuff in the lead-up to any workshops I might do. I also need to do the workshop as a trial run with my two friends, before putting the word out there – and this means planning ahead.
So check in again next month when I’m likely to have more details available about these workshops, and I hope I might then see you before the real countdown to Christmas kicks in!
